JYP “BATTLE FIELD” Trainee Showcase

JYP BATTLE FIELD

This trainee showcase is where the concept of a new JYP boy group began, with the lineup for the group at this time consisting of Chris, Hyunjin, Jisung, Jeongin, Siwon, Yao Chen, and Allen. Performing in front of an audience, the trainees did both group and solo performances, and the audience would get to place a sticker to vote which trainees had the best vocal, best dance, and who had star potential.

3RACHA is formed

Sometime after Seo Changbin joins JYP Entertainment, he and trainees Chris and Jisung form a hip-hop group called 3RACHA (in Korean, pronounced as sseu-racha, like the hot sauce).

3RACHA releases their first mixtape

3RACHA First Mixtape

Using the names CB97 (Chris), SPEARB (Changbin), and J.ONE (Jisung), 3RACHA released their first mixtape on Soundcloud and YouTube. They also announced on the Korean forum HIPHOPLE that they would be releasing a mixtape every two weeks, with an original track and a cover of an existing sample. In the rest of 2017, the trio would drop several mixtapes on Soundcloud and YouTube.

JYP announces trainee survival show titled "Stray Kids"

JYP Entertainment announces the name of their boy group survival show: Stray Kids. Unlike their previous successful survival show Sixteen which debuted girl group Twice, the trainees are all pre-selected by longtime trainee Bang Chan and CEO Park Jin-Young and the group competes together to debut.

In this first episode, viewers get a look at the previously never aired JYP trainee showcase, where they get to see the “HOMECOMING” showcase from a couple months prior. J.Y. Park has the girl group and boy group compete to determine the new debuting group, and he ends up picking the boy group.

Episode 4 of "Stray Kids" is released and Minho is eliminated

After performing self-composed unit songs in previous episodes, J.Y. Park eliminates Minho from the show for lacking some skills due to his shorter training period.

December 5, 2017

Episode 8 of "Stray Kids" is released and Felix is eliminated

After a busking challenge, Felix is eliminated for struggling with his rap due to his difficulty with the Korean language.

December 19, 2017

The final episode of "Stray Kids" is aired

Felix and Minho are given a second chance, and so the group will perform both as a seven-member and nine-member group to determine which lineup will debut. The audience votes with 96% in favor of the nine-member lineup, and so J.Y. Park confirms that all nine members will debut as Stray Kids.

After the end of the showcase tour "I am..." on September 27, Stray Kids released their first digital single "Double Knot" on October 9 as a pre-release for their upcoming fifth mini album Clé : LEVANTER, set for release on November 25, and also announced their first world tour, "District 9 : Unlock".

Woojin's departure from the group

JYP suddenly announces that Woojin will be leaving Stray Kids due to "personal reasons." Because of this, Clé : LEVANTER was delayed to be rerecorded and the group's first photobook, "Stay in London," was also postponed so it could be reedited.
